Volunteers Honored For Dedicated Service

The Overview, Inc. Foster Grandparent and
Senior Companion Program volunteers were honored on May 14,
at the annual May Recognition for their dedicated service to
special needs children and adults. The event was held at
Central State Hospital’s auditorium and the recognition
theme was “Sewing Seeds of Kindness.” Over 120 people were
in attendance for the event including volunteers, advisory
council members, station consumers, volunteer station
guests, Overview, Inc. Executive Director and staff, local
radio personality Bishop T, and speaker Sgt. Eddie Braswell
from the Milledgeville Fire Department.
The Milledgeville Junior Woman’s Club donated
the centerpieces and volunteer favors for the event. The
Baldwin County Service Center’s group “Music in Motion”
served as the entertainment performing sign language to four
inspirational songs. Radio personality, James Thomas, Jr.
better known as Bishop T, from 103.7, praised the volunteers
for dedicating time to the special needs children and adults
in the community. Sgt. Braswell, provided the invocation and
blessing of the meal as well as honoring the volunteers by
performing two spiritual hymns.
The
volunteers were honored with a certificate of appreciation
from Overview, Inc. and a gift from their assigned station.
The programs consist of 96 Foster Grandparents and Senior
Companions who volunteer at the Baldwin County Head Start,
Baldwin County Service Center, Central State Hospital, Green
Acres Nursing Home, Hancock County Head Start, Hancock
County Service Center, Putnam County Head Start,
Putnam/Jasper County Service Center, Wilkinson County
Service Center, and the Wilkinson County Head Start. The
programs have been in existence since 1965 and are part of
the Corporation for National Service. Sponsors of the
recognition were Overview, Inc. and the Corporation for
